My 13-Year Journey to Organic Hair Care: Why I Started Glowrious!

Being on a self-healing path includes the external part of it too!! I have been on my hair-healing journey for 13 years already! I can write a whole book telling my hair story!

In 2011, due to a major empowering transformation, That’s when I realized the importance of what I use on my body and hair… and what I eat, drink and later on think and feel. I was called to reevaluate the products available on the market. I realized how toxic the ingredients were in toothpaste, deodorants, body creams, shampoos, and all the other hair products, so I made the drastic decision to change everything for a much healthier lifestyle—including my hair routine.

 

The Search for THE Shampoo

I have always loved my curls and I have always pampered them using all the products I could find to have bouncier, shinier, and healthier curls. Always! When I took this drastic decision to change everything for a much healthier lifestyle; I have cut dairy, sugar, coffee, a bunch of unhealthy eating habits and of course I stopped all chemicals that I used to put on my skin and hair; from toothpaste to deo, from body lotion to hair care products. 

The products that I couldn’t find alternatives for i just cut them off my lifestyle. (I am a gemini thus I am known to have extreme choices, tout ou rien LOL) If we go back to 2011, Organic shops in Lebanon were not that available and  their products were so expensive.

Each unhealthy habit that I changed was a victory for me. The only thing that was still bothering me was the “cleaning the hair” phase. I spent so much time trying to find the shampoo. THE shampoo. Yes, most importantly, I was desperately trying to find the perfect organic shampoo.

I tried everything. From olive oil soap to Aleppo soap to the "No Poo" method, which basically meant washing my hair with only water. The truth is, what I missed most during this whole process was the fresh, uplifting smell and the foamy texture of shampoos! I was committed to cutting out all the chemicals from my hair routine, and I was proud of myself for sticking to this healthier lifestyle… but I missed my curls. They were not happy. Not at all. They had no hold, no definition, nor vibrancy, and no beautiful smell. And let me tell you, that was SO frustrating for me!
But I kept on trying, I tried the ACV Rinse-Apple cider Vinegar, and was so happy, and from time to time I still use it till now; I also tried a bunch of homemade flaxseed gels combined with aloe vera. But my expertise in homemade hair products was so little back then. I have been looking for answers for my curly hair for 11 years straight!

Building Glowrious: From a Passion to a Mission

Until… yes. Until! That’s when I said to myself why not try to go even further?
With the collaboration of a trustworthy and knowledgeable beautician friend of mine, we created our first shampoo! I was so amazed by how it made my hair feel - guilt-free! It gave me back the freshness, the lightness, and the beautiful curls I had been missing. And I said why not try to create all those products to have all the Curly Hair Experience! And it worked! I loved it so much, that I just knew I had to share this experience with everyone on their own quest for healthier products. It was magic. And honestly, every time I use our products, it’s still like trying them for the very first time.

It was that initial awe for the shampoo that inspired me to create a whole set of organic curly hair care products. This journey led me to launch Glowrious—a business born from passion, love for curls, and a dedication to a natural, ethical lifestyle.
