The Identity Crisis:
Your hair has more personalities than... euh drop it!
You might be a Type 2 (Wavy) and a Type 3 (Curly) combined!
Identify the shape so you can stop treating your coils like straight hair, it’s offensive to the ancestors :P
The Glass of Truth: Drop a strand of hair in water.
- Does it sink? It’s High Porosity. Your hair is a sponge with abandonment issues; it lets moisture leave too fast. Seal it or lose it.
- Does it float? It’s Low Porosity. Your hair is a "bouncer" at a club; it’s not letting any product in. Keep it light.
The "Usage" Secret Sauce: *
- Waves: Stop using heavy oils. You want "Beach Goddess," not "I haven't washed in 3 weeks."
- Curls: Use the Praying Hands. Literally, pray that the frizz stays away while you coat those ringlets.
- Coils: Lock Curls Oil is your soulmate. If you aren't sealing your ends, you’re just living in chaos.

Part 1: The Decoding: What is Your Curl Pattern?
Curl patterns refer to the natural shape and formation of your hair fibers. We categorize them into four main groups, each with its own "personality."
Type 1: Straight. No curl or wave, just smooth, straight strands.
Type 2: Wavy - The "S" Shape
Loose, S-shaped waves with a natural bounce.
- 2A: Fine, barely-there waves. Very easy to weigh down.
- 2B: Medium-textured waves. This is where the frizz usually starts to show up!
- 2C: Thick, well-defined waves with more volume.
Type 3: Curly - The Ringlets
Defined curls ranging from wide loops to tight springs.
- 3A: Loose, big curls with massive volume.
- 3B: Medium-sized curls with more bounce and tighter ringlets.
- 3C: Tight, corkscrew curls with high density.
Type 4: Kinky-Coily - The Z-Pattern
Very tight coils or zig-zag patterns that experience significant shrinkage.
- 4A: Soft, S-shaped coils with a bit of elasticity.
- 4B: Z-shaped coils with less visible definition and more "fluff."

This type is the most fragile and requires a lot (a lot, a lot) of love!

Part 2: Inner-stand Porosity - The "Float or Sink" Test
While your curl pattern tells us the shape, your Porosity tells us how your hair "breathes." It’s the doorway to your hair shaft. Is the door wide open, locked shut, or just right?
How to Test at Home:
- Start Clean: Use a few strands of clean, product-free hair.
- The Water Glass: Drop the strands into a glass of room-temperature water.
- The Wait: Observe where they land after 3–5 minutes.
The Results:

High Porosity: The Sinker
The hair sinks fast. The "door" is wide open.
It absorbs water instantly but loses it just as quickly.
Strategy: You have to seal. Use our Lock Curls Oil to anchor moisture inside. -
Medium Porosity: The Balanced
The hair floats in the middle.
This is the "Sweet Spot." It absorbs and retains moisture perfectly.
Strategy: Maintain the balance with our Leave-In and Gel. -
Low Porosity: The Surface Hugger
The hair floats on top. The "door" is locked shut. Water sits on the surface, leading to "crunchy" buildup.
Strategy: Use the Gentle Shampoo and Texturizing Spray. Avoid heavy layering!

The Moisture-First Routine - Tight Curls to Coils | Types 3B to 4A
- The Goal: Elasticity and "Pattern Memory."
- The Glowrious Way: Your hair loves the Deep Repair Mask. Use it weekly. Layer the Leave-In Conditioner under your Gel to create a moisture cushion.
- Pro-Tip: Use the "Praying Hands" method to ensure every ringlet is coated from root to tip.
The Maximum Seal Routine Kinky-Coily | Types 4B & 4C
- The Goal: Strength and Shrinkage Control.
- The Glowrious Way: Moisture is your best friend, but "Sealing" is your soulmate. After your Leave-In and Gel, always finish with the Lock Curls Oil. This creates a botanical barrier that stops the air from stealing your hair's water.
- Pro-Tip: Focus the Lock Curls Oil on your ends; they are the oldest part of your hair and need the most protection.
